Suspected stolen motor vehicle, drugs recovered in Polokwane

Multiple arrests for various crimes were made in the Polokwane and Westenburg policing areas in the past week.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Polokwane after he was found in possession of and dealing in drugs.

The man, who was also in the possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, was arrested during a tactical intelligence-driven join operation that was conducted by Saps Bela-Bela and the Provincial Narcotics Team.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said: “Nyaope, rock and crystal meth drugs as well as a cash amount of more than R4 000 were confiscated. The recovered motor vehicle was reported stolen in Pretoria, Gauteng,” he added.

The man was one of 2 560 people who were arrested during various joint operations in the province between Saturday, 16 January and Monday, 25 January.

Ngoepe said five people were apprehended in the Westenburg and Polokwane policing areas for possession of suspected stolen properties, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of drugs, possession and selling of liquor and breaking the curfew in contravention with the Disaster Management Act.

“A 40-year-old man was found selling liquor at a local hotel in Jane Furse. 69 bottles of an assortment of beers were found and the man was arrested, while the liquor was also confiscated,” he explained.

Ngoepe said the same members spotted a suspicious looking white bakkie, which was stopped and searched.

“The police found eleven 20 litres of suspected stolen containers with petrol and diesel, which were confiscated. Other items confiscated during these operations include three motor vehicles, electronic appliances, cellphones, drugs, liquor and illicit cigarettes,” he added.

In a separate incident, the Polokwane Tracing Team and the Crime Intelligence Unit recovered laptops, cellphones and an amplifier when they successfully traced a 39-year-old man in Lebowakgomo.

“The team further recovered other suspected stolen properties such as plasma screen TV’s and laptops during an operation which was conducted in Seshego,” he explained.

Operation Tshwara Tsotsi, which is comprised of the Capricorn District Team and the Crime Intelligence Unit nabbed a man in the Polokwane CBD for the possession of suspected stolen laptops and cellphones, believed to be stolen during a house robbery that occurred in Seshego.

“The 35-year-old driver failed to provide invoices and a valid reason for being in possession of the goods, as well as suspected stolen fuel and he was immediately arrested. He was also arrested during the curfew period,” Ngoepe concluded.
