‘Disruptive rains’ expected to hit Limpopo this weekend
Tropical storm 'Eloise" is expected to make landfall in Limpopo over the weekend and the South African Weather Service has issued several warnings. We break down the areas in the province which will be most affected.
LIMPOPO -The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned that Tropical Storm Eloise is set to make landfall tonight into tomorrow morning in the Beira area of Mozambique and travel inland towards Limpopo on Sunday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the service warned that while overland, weakening of the system is expected to take place. However, extreme rainfall is still expected over southern Mozambique, parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces as well as northern KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend and into Monday.
In Limpopo, the northern parts are expected to receive the brunt of the storm and SAWS, today, issued an orange (Level 9) warning for Musina, Makhado, Thohoyandou, Malamulele, Giyani, Ba-Phalaborwa and Hoedspruit.

The remnants of the storm is, however, expected to have a lesser impact inland and a yellow (Level 4) warning was issued for Polokwane, Alldays, Mogwadi, Burgersfort, Jane Furse and Groblersdal.
The warning is effective from Sunday 12:00 to Monday 11:59 and the service warns of ‘disruptive rains’ which includes flooding of roads, damage to bridges and property.
The SAWS has warned the public to stay indoors and off the roads during this time.

Gauteng and North West provinces are also expected to receive rainfall on Monday through to Tuesday.
