POLOKWANE – The 27-year-old Madikana Marokane from Seshego is a proud, emerging businessman who aims to change the livelihood of unemployed youth in his community.
“Growing up, I always dreamt of having my own business, so I did research as to what venture would not only benefit me, but the community I live in.
“I noted that the cleaning business is a tangible one to pursue and so I began saving money to be able to buy the equipment and machinery needed to get the business up-and-running,” he explained.
He started MAD KAN in 2019, moving house-to-house offering his services, which included the cleaning of the house, couches, carpets, curtains, cars as well as a gardening service.
Furthering his academics was at the top of Madikana’s list and after matriculating, he registered for a civil engineering (roads and construction) diploma with Capricorn TVET College.
“I was not afraid to change the route of my career and profession as jobs are scarce. My company is doing well, we have managed to employ three people from within our community, so not only are we helping to put food food on their tables, we are also helping to keep homes, working environments and every other living space clean and safe.”
Madikana says the rise in Covid-19 infections has led to them fumigating and sanitising every living space we clean, for free.
He added that his short term goals include owning his own brand of cleaning detergents as well advancing his knowledge and skills in the cleaning industry by studying towards a qualification in hygiene and cleaning.
He also urges his peers struggling to find employment to take it upon themselves to do research as to what essential services are needed in their immediate environment/communities and try to cater and render those services at a fee.
