Mokopane police seek man’s assistance in murder of mom and baby

The mother and baby were found strangled at lodge outside Mokopane on Thursday, 14 January.

MOKOPANE – The police are calling on the man in the photo to come to the Mahwelereng Police Station or to the nearest station to assist with the investigation into the murder of a 20-year-old mother and her one-year-old daughter.    

The partially decomposed bodies of the deceased were found in the room of a lodge near Masodi village outside Mokopane on Thursday, 14 January.     

Strangled mom, infant – ‘We miss them terribly’

According to police reports the woman and her child were together with an unknown man and had booked into the room on Tuesday, 12 January at around 19:00. “The trio were dropped outside the gate of the lodge and the man had booked a room for the night. He did not provide any personal information and told the receptionist that they will leave the next day (Wednesday, 13 January,” said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

No movement was noted at the room and the receptionist went to the room with the aim of cleaning it on Thursday. “In the room she found the bodies of a woman and child and notified the police,” Ngoepe added.

The hands of both of the deceased had been bound and both bodies were in a state of decomposition. Police reports suggest the victims were strangled to death.

Police investigations are still underway to identify and locate their family the deceased.  “The motive behind the incident is not clear at this stage and the police are calling on anyone who can  to come to the Mahwelereng Police Station or to the nearest station to assist with investigations in this matter.”

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has ordered a 72-hour activation plan towards the apprehension of the suspect. “The suspect is believed to be in his thirties and anyone with information that can lead to his arrest, is urged to contact Lt Col Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501. They can also use the MySAPSAPP or contacts the 24-hour Crime Stop number at 086 001 0111.”
