POLOKWANE – Residents and motorists are advised of a heavy police presence in Seshego due to ongoing incidents of taxi violence in the city.

According to Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, public order policing members had been deployed in the vicinity of Mall of the North and at the Seshego Circle Centre.
“The members were deployed after two taxis were burned this morning. One taxi was set alight in the Westenburg policing area and another on the Mogwadi (Dendron) Road. Police have opened cases of malicious damage to property, attempted murder, assault and robbery,” he explained.
Review spoke to Polokwane Station Commander, Brig Gift Makhubele, who said no arrests have been made yet. “Leads are being followed and arrests will be made soon,” he added.
Makhubele also noted that the large police presence was due to daily police activity and patrolling to ensure residents adhere to current adjusted Level 3 lockdown regulations.
Members of the Seshego and Moletjie Taxi Associations are in a closed meeting with the Department of Transport and Community Safety. Media Liaison Officer, Mike Maringa, noted that the media were not allowed to attend and that the outcome of the meeting will be shared once reached.
