Covid-19 cases: The National Institute for Communicable Diseases provides a detailed overview of positive cases per age groups and area.

POLOKWANE – According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases’ detailed Covid-19 statistics for Limpopo, the majority of people infected with the virus are between the age of 31- 40.

The NICD indicates that of the 38 723 cumulative cases, more than 9 800 were reported in the 31-40 age group and 8 000 in the 41-50 age group. The 51-60 age group recorded more than 6 600 cases, while 6 300 cases were reported in the 21-30 age group.

The NICD’s statistics show a rapid increase in Covid-19 cases since the beginning of the festive season.

Polokwane’s detailed statistics follow the same trend as the provincial statistics with most cases recorded in the age group 31-40, followed by 41-50. More than 1 400 people between the age of 51-60 have tested positive for the virus. Residents between the age of 21-30 contributed more than 1 300 positive cases.

Ward 39 in Polokwane has been the biggest contributor, with more than 623 cases, followed by Ward 20 with 547 cases and Ward 23 with 439 cases.

Other Wards who have recorded a significant number of cases are: Ward 22 (372), Ward 17 (368), Ward 14 (364), Ward 19 (322), Ward 21 (302), Ward 13 (207) and Ward 25 (204).
