Luxury car driver clocks 240 km/h on N1

The man was caught by Limpopo traffic police and faces charges of reckless and negligent driving.

LIMPOPO – A motorist has been charged with reckless and negligent driving after caught driving at double the speed limit near Pienaarsriver along the N1 south.

According to the Department of Transport a 37-year-old man was detained at the Pienaarsrivier Police Station earlier today after Limpopo traffic police clocked him travelling at 240 km/h in a prescribed maximum limit of 120 km/h.

The Mercedez-Benz driver also faces other charges related to the National Road Traffic Act.

His arrest comes four days after a 34-year-old driver of a Volkswagen Polo was caught travelling at a speed of 209 km/h in a 120 km/h zone. The 34-year-old man was arrested along the N1 near Modimolle.

In December most fatal road incidents in the province were attributed to speeding and reckless driving.
