Man sought by Limpopo police for chopping roommate to death

Mpho Joseph Sekele's (44) body was found in the room he shared with the suspect, while visiting a local traditional healer.

LIMPOPO – Police in Sekhukhune are investigating the murder of 44-year-old Mpho Joseph Sekele, whose body was found at Ga-Mashegoana this morning.

A report by Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Mamphaswa Seabi, suggests Sekele was murdered while visiting a local traditional healer.

“In the early hours of today, the police received information about someone being murdered in the area. They quickly responded and arrived at the scene of the crime together with emergency personnel. Sekele was severely injured and certified dead by the EMS,” Seabi added.

It is believed that Sekele shared the room with another man, believed to be responsible for the murder.

“The police have launched a massive manhunt for the man, who allegedly chopped the victim several times with a sharp instrument and thereafter fled from the scene wearing a blanket and short pants,” he said.

Seabi explained that the man is believed to be mentally challenged and that anyone with information that can assist the police to arrest him, should contact the investigating officer, Lt Col Phalane at 082 414 2663 or 079 889 9367.

“Alternatively, contact the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or your nearest police station. Police investigations are still ongoing,” he concluded.
