LIMPOPO – The Department of Health in the province has taken steps to ensure all patients, Covid-19 positive and negative, will receive the necessary treatment. This includes transferring patients from one provincial hospital to another during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement the department states that because there is a high demand for hospital beds, the department has pooled ALL beds in ALL provincial hospitals throughout the province to enable admission of patients as required.
This means that if all the beds in the hospital where you are consulting are filled, the department will work to secure you a bed at another hospital in the province.
The process will be as follows:
- The patient will be admitted and his/her details captured in the hospital system.
- A bed will be secured at any of the Limpopo Department of Health’s hospitals and the patient will be transferred and transported to the said facility.
- On discharge the patient will be transported back to the base hospital.
According to the statement should a patient refuse to be transferred or transported to another hospital, they will be required to sign a Refusal of Hospital Treatment Form (RHTF).
The patient’s refusal of treatment will be entered into the hospital file and the patient will be required to leave the hospital premises to make space for other patients, the statement concluded.
