N1 between Kranskop and Modimolle open following yesterday’s fatal collision

Five people are dead and three others injured following a four-vehicle collision on the N1 south on Saturday.

LIMPOPO – The N1 southbound and northbound lanes between the Modimolle off-ramp (Middlefonteing) and Kranskop are now fully open for traffic.

LIMPOPO – The southbound lanes between Kranskop and Modimolle are open following yesterday’s fatal crash, confirmed Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala, Spokesperson for the Department of Transport.

“The two lanes are open for traffic and it is anticipated that work on the northbound lanes will be completed by 16:00.”

LIMPOPO – The N1 road south is still closed between Modimolle and Kranskop, confirmed Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala, Spokesperson for the Department of Transport.

“The truck involved in yesterday’s fatal incident was loaded was transporting cement, therefore the road maintenance team have decided to close the road to allow the road maintenance to clean the road.”

He explained that the traffic from both direction will be diverted to the R101 via Modimolle.  “The road will be closed for approximately three hours.”

Five people were killed and three others injured after four-vehicle collided near the Kranskop Toll Plaza on Saturday afternoon. According to an earlier statement the incident involved, a truck, a SUV and two sedans.

“Reckless and negligent driving has been cited as a possible cause for the accident, after the driver of one of the sedans involved, reportedly overtook on the barrier line and collided head-on with a truck. The truck then collided with two other vehicles.”

Motorists will be notified once the road is open.

LIMPOPO – Five people are dead and three others injured following a four-vehicle collision on the N1 south earlier today.

The incident involved a truck, a SUV and two sedans and resulted in both southbound lanes between Kranskop Toll Plaza and the Modimolle off-ramp (Middlefontein), being closed.

Mike Maringa, Media Liaison Officer for the Department of Transport confirmed in a statement that five people died and three others were injured.

“Reckless and negligent driving has been cited as a possible cause for the accident, after the driver of one of the sedans involved, reportedly overtook on the barrier line and collided head-on with a truck. The truck then collided with two other vehicles.”

The road is still closed and motorists are advised to approach the scene with caution and exercise patience.

LIMPOPO – A collision between four vehicles has led to the temporary closure of the southbound lanes between Kranskop Toll Plaza and the Modimolle off-ramp (Middlefontein).

According to Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala, the incident involves a truck, a SUV and two sedans.

“Both southbound lanes have been closed and the department can now confirm that five people have been killed.” 

The number of fatalities is not yet known. Motorists are advised to approach the scene with caution and exercise patience.
