Man who used ‘false documentation’ to buy vehicle at Burgersfort dealership, arrested

The man was arrested almost two years after the vehicle transaction was concluded.

LIMPOPO – A 27-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly using fraudulent documents to secure a vehicle loan, made his first court appearance in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 7 January.

The man was arrested by the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigating unit after it was found he had bought a vehicle from a dealership using fraudulent documentation, stated Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke.

The said transaction took place on 12 April 2019 at a vehicle dealership in Burgersfort. The vehicle, a Toyota Avanza is valued at R414 000.

Maluleke said at the time the vehicle finance was successfully approved by a finance company and the accused received the vehicle. “The bank only became suspicious when he failed to pay his first installment and investigated. It was later discovered that the documents that he had submitted when he applied for the loan were not his and the matter was referred to the Hawks for further handling.”

He added that the accused was successfully traced and was arrested at his home in Jane Furse on 6 January. “The said vehicle was also recovered.”

The accused was remanded in custody by the court and is set to re-appear on 13 January for formal bail application.
