Rock these hairstyles this holiday season

Polokwane hairdresser, Mapula Makola told Review what hairstyles one should opt for this holiday season.

POLOKWANE – The holiday season is here and along with it comes care-free days, where one would rather not want too spend too much time one doing one’s hair.

With this in mind, Review asked local hairdresser, Mapula Makola, what options are available this December.

She says because summer can get very hot in Polokwane, most people move away from weaves and opt for styles that allow the hair to breathe.

Mapula is a big fan of cornrows and says it is a style that won’t die soon. “What I love most about cornrows is that you can still decide to wear your wig on top of them should an occasion arise. Cornrows are quick and easy and very affordable. If your hair is long enough, you don’t need extensions otherwise they can be added,” she explains.

If you want to keep your style simple, you can add some colour in the tips to make it stand out. “Adding colour to the tips is a better alternative to dying. These days you can get extensions in any colour imaginable,” she adds.

Mapula says school children, who are not usually able to be adventurous with their hair because of school rules, can opt for the Sho Madzjozi signature look.

Majozi is a Xitsonga musician who is known for her funky multi-coloured hairstyles.

Khuthi Makananise rocks multi-coloured braids.

“The style is easy to maintain and does not take up much time,” she explains.

Cut and dye also works well in summer, so take the plunge says Mapula. “If you have been contemplating the big cut and dye, there is no better time to do it. This is a low maintenance hairstyle which is a sure bet to leave you looking beautiful all summer long.”

Thuso Ligavha rocks a classic amber rose blonde cut.

Mapula says it is important to rock a hairstyle that you are comfortable in before anything else. She says it is important to moisturise your hair regularly and spritz a nit of water on it to allow it to grow properly. “Water is your hair’s best friend. Let go of all the treatments and wash your hair regularly. Always remember to wear a shower cap or swimming cap before you dive into the pool,” she concludes.
