Polokwane residents urged to use water sparingly due to ‘critically low’ reservoir levels

Municipal spokesperson, Thipa Selala said most reservoirs within the municipal area are at a critical stage, with no signs of improvement any time soon.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municpality is calling on residents to use water sparingly due to reservoir levels across the municipality having dropped severaly.

Municipal spokesperson, Thipa Selala said most reservoirs within the municipal area are at a critical stage, with no signs of improvement any time soon.

Thipa explained that all the Krugersburg reservoirs (50Ml, 30Ml Dome and 30Ml Flat) are sitting at 0% and that the reservoirs have not shown any improvement since Tuesday. “On Tuesday afternoon, the 50Ml was sitting at 8%, the 30Ml Dome at 2% and the 30Ml Flat at 0%. The 50Ml and 30Ml Dome has been sitting at the 0% since Wednesday morning while the 30Ml Flat since Tuesday afternoon.”

He added that the other reservoirs are also not looking good as they are below 15%.

“It is by this reason that the municipality urges all consumers to use this scarce, yet precious commodity wisely.”

Water saving tips:

• Take shorter showers, turn off the shower while soaping up and then back on to rinse;
• Reuse water where applicable;
• Fix water leakages; and
• Report pipe bursts or leakages to the municipality to municipal water helpline on 015 023
