‘A joyous festive season and a healthy, prosperous 2021 to all’

A festive message from Thembi Nkadimeng, Polokwane Mayor

The year 2020 has been characterised with its own unique challenges across all aspects of our lives. However, we should continue to live with hope that this too shall pass. This festive season is different, as it happens during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is therefore important for us to continue our efforts to observe safety guidelines as pronounced by the Ministry of Health.Sanitize your hands or wash them with soap, observe social distancing and avoid crowded areas at all times.

Let our celebrations or festivities be as small in number as possible so that we do not contribute in spreading this deadly scourge.

The people of Polokwane are saying no to all forms of abuse and violence against women, children and the elderly.

As we take this opportunity to reflect, let’s reach out to each other because families and businesses were affected negatively. Some of our loved ones were lucky to make it and others weren’t. Our heartfelt condolences and sympathy goes to the families and friends of those who lost their loved ones due to the Corona virus and to the victims of violence and abuse. We say may their souls rest in peace.

May we find the spirit to comfort and support families whose loved ones are affected and living with mental health-related issues. May we all find the spirit of the festivities to comfort one another and spend this festive season in their honour and remembrance.Let us continue in the spirit of patriotism and the courage to build South Africa together by embracing one another without regard to race, colour, gender or position. Please exercise patience, tolerance and humility on the roads.

This season will see more law enforcement officers from all sectors of government out there in the streets in operations to enforce the law and to ensure your safety. Don’t drink and drive. Arrive Alive!

I take this opportunity on behalf of the Council of Polokwane Municipality, to wish all of you a joyous festive season and a healthy, prosperous 2021.

May God bless the people of Polokwane!

Thembi Nkadimeng, Polokwane Mayor.
