Men among men address GBV

Pastor Gift Mashele, project coordinator of #Men amongst Men, said “enough is enough” on the continued killing of women and children.

Pastor Gift Mashele, project coordinator of #Men amongst Men, said “enough is enough” on the continued killing of women and children.
This was said during a march dedicated to the 16 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, held at Limpopo Mall on Friday.
He said the march was to address gender-based violence (GBV) against women and children.
“This event saw men confronting men about the situation of killing women and children that is currently happening in our society, particularly in Polokwane. We have seen several incidents in which women were killed over the past few weeks. We have to take a stand as #Men amongst Men to organise such a march to address these issues affecting our women. We came to a point where we say, we as men are tired of crime against women and children,” said Mashele.
He said men need to seek intervention from the police or social workers.
“We have called pastors and artists to address the men. I am glad that people came out in their numbers to show support for this initiative. We realised that men bottling up and not talking about their issues, is the main reason that leads to women and children abuse,” he said.
He then told Polokwane Observer that they cannot wait for the annual campaign to show support against these crimes.
“From January, we will launch it every month to encourage men not to kill women. Gender-based violence is an every day phenomenon and we will focus on municipal parks to address the mater with men who usually spend their time in public parks,” he concluded.
