SANBS Limpopo Jail and Bail: Prominent figures and role players handcuffed and jailed

In their quest to reach out and cater for people in need of blood, the South African Blood Service in Limpopo embarked on a Jail and Bail initiative also aimed at increasing the shortage of blood in Polokwane on Friday and Saturday.

POLOKWANE – The event saw prominent figures, captains of industries, role players and as well media personalities be handcuffed and jailed at a donor centre in Polokwane and get associates, friends, family members or the general people to donate blood before being released.

The event formed part of SANBS’s endeavors of ensuring that they have a good supply of blood the festive season. According to a statement from SANBS despite the festive nature of the December holidays, the season will unfortunately again deliver its fair share of drama and trauma, which will bring about a shortage of blood. The SANBS has therefore embarked on a campaign to try and stock up as much blood as possible through several blood drives.

“Without our blood donors, many lives will be lost this festive season. We ask you to give life this festive season by donating blood at your nearest blood donation centre or mobile blood drive. Our blood stocks are critically low. We appeal to all blood donors to help us save lives by raising 3 500 units of blood per day.”

Ipeleng Thetela, Donor Relation Practitioner at SANBS thanked the participants and various stakeholders for making the event a success.

“We were graced by the awesome group of jailbirds in an effort to assist the SANBS to maintain stock during the festive season. On Friday we managed to collect 52 units of blood and 12 units of source plasma. On Saturday we collected 33 units of blood and 14 units of source plasma. Overall we have collected a total of 99 units of blood over the two days,” Thetela said. She also added Netcare Pholoso were able to bring 14 donors, Bulktec clothing eight, PMR Media seven, Capricorn FM seven, SANBS Donor Committee members 12, SANBS Donor Educator 10, Round Table Polokwane seven and Polokwane Review five.
