Your last minute vacation essentials packing checklist

In the rush of getting ready to leave for your trip this vacation, you might need some help remembering what to pack. Here's a list of some important items you can't leave behind.

Here is a list of things you might want to remember when packing for your vacation. Keep this list on hand and check off as you pack.

Here’s a pro-packing tip for saving space: Instead of folding clothes, lay them out without wrinkles, gently fold in sections like sleeves, fold in half once and roll up into a tight cylinder. This method is less prone to wrinkling and takes up less space.

1) Main luggage and toiletries bag (you have to pack everything somewhere).

2) Clothes: Be sure to pack day and night, formal and informal, long-sleeve and short-sleeve as well as swimwear – clothes for every occasion.

3) Underwear and socks. Always pack more of these than the number of days you’re going away for.

4) Shoes: Takkies, sandals and formal shoes for every occasion.

Put socks and small items inside shoes to protect the shape of the shoes and help save space.

5) Sleepwear.

6) Rain jacket and umbrella. You never know if it might rain or not.

7) Glasses, sunglasses and cases to keep them safe. Also remember contact lenses and solution.

8) Towel: At least one for just in case, even if your vacation accommodation supplies towels.

9) Jewellery

Set your jewelry between two sheets of plastic wrap to prevent it from moving around and tangling inside your bag.

10) Hat/ cap

11) Cellphone, tablet, laptop, e-reader, camera and chargers.

12) Portable speakers.

13) Toothbrush and toothpaste.

14) Comb, hair dryer and other hair-related equipment.

15) Deodorant and roll-on.

16) Shampoo, conditioner, soap and face wash.

To prevent liquid products from spilling (and ruining everything else inside your bag), cut a small square of plastic wrap, unscrew the product’s lid, set the plastic wrap on top, and screw the lid back on. That way if the lid pops open, no product can spill out.

17) Sunscreen.

18) Cosmetics, make-up remover and clean wipes.

19) Personal/ feminine hygiene products.

20) Cologne/ perfume.

Stuff socks and products that won’t burst inside your shoes if you’re low on packing space. Also place shoes in a shower cap to keep other clothes from getting dirty.

21) Shaving razors and cream.

22) Nail clippers and tweezers.

23) Medication. Even if you don’t use prescription medication regularly, make sure to have a medical kit for any unexpected illnesses.

24) Wallet, handbag, money and credit/ debit/ bank cards.

25) Identification Document and Driver’s Licence.

26) Home and car keys.

27) Earphones and earplugs.

28) Water/ drink bottle.

29) Wristwatch and bedside alarm clock.

30) Travel tickets.

31) Accommodation/ reservation documents.

32) Reading material – books, magazines, etc.

33) Handheld gaming consoles.

34) Playing cards and board games.

35) Vacation journal and pens.
