Polokwane water shortages: Tap, track and report with this App

The Polokwane DA has launched a live tracking App to report water shortages in the city.

POLOKWANE – Water issues in the city can now be reported with a tap on this App. The Polokwane DA has created an App where residents can report water shortages in their area.

The App is a combined initiative of Ward Councillors Franco Marx (Ward 39) and Frank Haas (Ward 21) and was developed by Douw Venter together with First Technology.

According to a statement issued by Haas and Marx, the App is still being developed and is only a reporting App, for now. “Our intention is for the Polokwane Municipality to see the benefit of the App, and use it to ensure water delivery is more structured and efficient,” reads the statement.

The App is currently only available on Android platforms and can be downloaded here: https://waterapp.webguard.co.za/plkwater/install.htm

Step 1: Register

Step 2: Upload your current status.

  • Water OK
  • Water but low pressure
  • No water. No water truck is needed
  • No water. Water truck is needed

Step 3: View your city status

Depending on the selection made above, a coloured marker will be placed on the map. This marker disappears after 24 hours.

Green: There is water.

Orange: There is water, but the pressure is low, not high enough for taking a shower, but well enough to get sufficient water for daily needs.

Rose: No water, but no water truck is needed. (Water tanks may have sufficient water)

Red: No water, and in need of water truck to deliver water. (The user will automatically be placed on the database for needing a water truck.)

Blue: This location received water recently, and is still in a period not eligible for receiving water. The length of this period depends on the quantity water received.

Yellow: Locations where water can be fetched.

Cyan: This is live indicators of the locations of water trucks. If a device is activated on a water truck it will show on the map as a moving marker.

Haas reminds residents that the party is not in charge of the water situation in Polokwane and cannot guarantee water delivery, as that “remains the responsibility of the municipality”. Other municipal related queries can still be reported on the DA telegram group: DA Polokwane Municipal Info, which can be joined at https://t.me/PolokwaneMunicipality
