Mitchell House ended the year on a nostalgic note as the school also had to bid farewell to the Headmaster, Andrew Cook, who is retiring and other teachers who are leaving the school.
A farewell ceremony was held in the school’s theatre last Wednesday.
The staff choir and teachers sang and danced to mark the occasion, before a series of speeches followed, reminiscent of the time spent with those who are leaving.
The outgoing Director of Sport, Fred Romijn, surprised an emotional Cook and his wife, Heather, with a special rendition of I Did It My Way by Frank Sinatra as a dedication to their departure.
Cook, who will remain at the school for the first few months of 2021 to assist the new headmaster thanked his colleagues, adding that despite being the head of the school, his achievements came about thanks to the teamwork from his staff.
“I’m so grateful for everyone who has been sent my way to work with me, whom I could call colleagues. I also thank all of the mentors that I’ve had within the school during my teaching years.
“Over the years, I’ve seen people who have shown an ability and unconditional love to care for a child or a person and to change and transform utterly and if I’ve had a moment or two like that, it’s the one thing I live upon, to care for people,” he said.
Cook was awarded a golf set as a farewell gift.
