Six people killed in horror multi-vehicle crash in Mokopane CBD

Four pedestrians and two others died after a truck crashed into several vehicles and a building in the main street of Mokopane on Wednesday evening.

MOKOPANE – Six fatalities were reported after a fiery collision in Mokopane central business district (CBD) on Wednesday evening.

Media Liaison Officer for the Department of Transport, Mike Maringa, says the incident involved six vehicles, a truck and five sedans.

“It is alleged that the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle near the corner of Thabo Mbeki and Retief street and crashed into five vehicles before slamming into a nearby building. The vehicles and the building caught fire after the impact,” Maringa explained.

During the incident four pedestrians were knocked over and killed and the driver of the truck and a passenger, who were trapped in the vehicle died on the scene. Other person sustained serious burn injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Transport and Community Safety MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has sent messages of condolences to the families of people who were killed in the collision.
