Leading in 2021 at Tommies

Elected head leaders, Moloko Mokgawa and Enrize van der Walt will lead the school in 2021

Being the head leaders of a school like Tom Naudé Technical High School is not an easy task but it is definitely a prestigious position.
Polokwane Observer spoke to Moloko Mokgawa and Enrize van der Walt, who will lead the school in 2021.
Moloko, or Mollie as she is affectionately known, is the school’s first head girl of colour and she says it is an amazing feat.
“I remember the night of the inauguration. I kept telling myself, just because there has never been a black head girl, doesn’t mean there never will be, and when I heard my name I couldn’t contain myself.”
Moloko says being the first black head girl at the school is an achievement she will never forget and she will make sure that she does her utmost best to be great and show learners that it really doesn’t matter who you are, but that hard work pays off.
“I will be an example to not only black girls, but to all girls. I really couldn’t have achieved this without the help of my parents, my teachers and the Almighty God.”
Mollie started her schooling at Laerskool Messina Primary and completed Gr 7 year at Laerskool Pietersburg Noord (Noordskool), where she was also a leader.
She says she wanted to be a leader at Tom Naudé as she would then be able to help people on a more public platform. “Helping other learners is one of my favourite things to do.”
Enrize was also a leader in his Gr 7 year at Oosskool. Having been elected as a leader in high school, he said, actually came as a surprise.
“I wanted to be the head leader as I believe I can inspire others to make a difference. When I heard my name being called, I was anxious at first but then the excitement took over. As a leader, I believe I should have a lot of determination, good self-esteem and strong will power. Characteristics that Moloko and I need as a team need would commitment and have the best intentions for our school.”
Moloko agrees and adds that they should be strong leaders, respectful, reliable and involved in school activities.
“Other qualities I would need for my position would include being able to take responsibility of the work that you are given and also be able to understand the problems of others to be able to help them.”
As for the activities they have planned for next year, Moloko says she, with the help of friends, started to help Ngwana Baby Home, a home for abandoned babies. They rely on donations and that is something that she would like to focus on in 2021, helping them get as many donations as possible.
