Mrs Polokwane reflects on her year of reign and plans ahead

Mapula and her mother are hoping to establish a mobile computer classroom at Ramongwana Primary School before she hands over her title.

POLOKWANE – 32 seems to be a lucky number for Mrs Polokwane 2020, Mapula Legodi.

Not only will she be turning 32 but her mom’s 32-year service as a teacher has been the foundation for her helping other people.

Mapula told Review that her mother, Salphy Morulane, will be retiring from Ramongwana Primary School at the end of the year, and together, they hope to end 2020 on a giving note by helping the less fortunate in Polokwane. “As I hand over my title and my Mom retires, we are hoping to leave a mobile classroom/wendy house as a computer room with at least two laptops at Ramongwana Primary as a way for both of us to ‘sign out’,” Mapula said.

She added that they are looking at donating bibles and skipping ropes to the school’s gr 7 learners as well as 2021 diaries and hopefully share a piece of cake and a meal with the learners. Mapula says her journey as Mrs Polokwane has been interesting and memorable.

She adds that starting off her journey the same time that the Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe gave her hope and intention to take up space and walk confidently. “Due to Covid-19, most of the plans I had as Mrs Polokwane had to be adjusted.

I had to decide to either blame Covid-19 or adapt to the ‘new normal’ and do what was possible within the given space and it has been beautiful.

I managed to start virtual conversations for women by women called #IaMOM, which happens every Tuesday on Whatsapp and Telegram with over 300 women across the country,” she said.

In addition, Mapula says they have managed to assist in feeding needy families during lockdown, host confidence coaching sessions for women and schools, donate Bible and skipping ropes, which stemmed from weight-loss transformations and weight loss coaching.

Mapula is looking for contributions or donations towards her mobile computer room and anyone looking to get involved can donate to the following account:
