Cop murdered in Mutale police cells: inmate and his uncle denied bail

Warrant Officer, Mmbulaheni Ronald Mulanduli (57) was attacked and stabbed to death during a routine inspection at the Mutale Police Station.

LIMPOPO – Two men arrested in connection with the murder of Warrant Officer (WO) Mmbulaheni Ronald Mulanduli, were denied bail and their case postponed to 2021 by the Mutale Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 30 November.

Mulanduli was attacked and stabbed during his shift at the Mutale Police Station on Friday, 27 November. The attacker also stole money from a safe during the incident.

The 22-year-old prison escapee and his uncle (36) were arrested on 29 November. According to an earlier statement the police received information that the uncle of the suspect had taken his nephew to see a traditional healer at one of the villages under Mutale policing area. “A team of investigators followed up and the duo were arrested on Sunday morning. The murder weapon, the keys and some of the money that was stolen, were also recovered,” Police Spokesperson, Col  Moatshe Ngoepe said.

The 22-year-old man, was out on R4 000 bail for car hijacking he allegedly committed in January, and was arrested earlier the day on charges of rape, kidnapping and violation of an order of protection.

“He now faces extra charges of  murder, escaping from lawful custody and robbery. The uncle faces a charge of defeating the ends of justice.”

They will re-appear on 24 March 2021.

LIMPOPO – The prison escapee (22) who reportedly stabbed and killed a 57-year-old warrant officer attached to the Mutale Police Station, has been arrested, confirmed Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe in a statement on Sunday afternoon. “The 36-year-old uncle of the escaped suspect was also arrested after he was found to have assisted his nephew after the escape.”

The WO, who has since been identified as Mmbulaheni Ronald Mulanduli, was stabbed on Friday, 27 November at around 16:30 during a routine visit to the police cells at the said station. The suspect had also stolen money from a safe during the incident.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has greatly welcomed the arrest of the suspect and his uncle, within 72 hours after the incident.
