Disposal of medical waste near local primary school is “irresponsible”

The Department of Health has condemned the irresponsible dumping of medical waste near Luthuli Park Primary School in Seshego and has called on residents who can assist the department in their investigation into the dumping to come forward.

POLOKWANE – The Department of Health has condemned the recent dumping of  medical waste in Seshego outside Polokwane and has called on residents who might have information about the dumped goods to come forward.

This after the department was alerted about five bags of medical waste which were dumped near Luthuli Park Primary School.

In a statement the department vehemently condemned the ‘irresponsible’ dumping of medical waste adding that the department has an established waste management system which ensures that medical waste is disposed and dumped according to prescribed regulations.

“The dumped items could expose the community to serious health hazards, therefore the department requests anyone with information that can assist in this investigation to come forward.”

Department’s officials have since collected the waste in order to properly dispose of it, the statement concluded.
