45-year-old man sentenced to life imprisonment for rape of teenage girl

The Mankweng Regional Court this week sentenced a 45-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of a teenage girl in 2017.

LIMPOPO – His sentencing emanated from and incident where a teenage girl, who was 14-years-old at the time, was raped at Ga Makanye Village outside Polokwane on 21 December 2017.

According to police investigations the accused accosted the girl, who was his neighbour’s daughter, while she was playing on the streets with her friends and ordered her to follow him to his house. “When she refused he  threatened to kill her whereby she followed him and he ultimately raped her in his house,” explained Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The victim reported the matter to her mother and the police were immediately notified. The case of rape was opened and assigned to Detective Sgt Koena Shilajwe for further investigations.

“Through the meticulous investigations conducted by the member, the accused was arrested and positively linked to the incident.”

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba welcomed the sentenced and praised the investigating officer for the sterling job done in putting this rapist in jail forever. “We hope that it will serve as a deterrent to all other rapists or rapists to be, that crime does not pay, concluded Ledwaba.
