Paediatricians and dietitians from various healthcare facilities in the province participated in a short Paeds Refresher Course aimed to empower the specialists with the latest practices in paediatrics in Polokwane on Saturday.
Event organiser and pediatrician, Dr Keleke Maila said the course also focused on children born with lung diseases, heart abnormalities and surgical problems.
“The course formed part of our endeavors to reduce the high mortality rate in children and also manage child-related illnesses.”
He also said the platform gave them an opportunity to find ways to empower each other and improve their daily practices and to execute their duties without any hindrances.
“Most of the health workers are strained, they are overworked and burned out, and pose a huge risk to patients. So, we are making a passionate plea to Government to help them to reduce their workload. We need human resources.
“There is a lack of personnel at most of the healthcare facilities and that is one of the issues we would love the authorities to look at.”
