Olivia celebrates her birthday by giving back

Women in Prayer International movement's founder, Olivia Simango, recently celebrated her birthday with women from the Seshego Victim Empowerment Centre and learners from Grace and Hope Special School.

POLOKWANE – Instead of celebrating herself, Simango handed out sanitary towels, groceries and soccer balls to women from the Seshego Victim Empowerment Centre and learners from Grace and Hope Special School and celebrated her birthday in a different way.

Simango was escorted to both venues by members of the Unicorn Riders, Sapa Yopa, and Smanjemanje Motorcycle clubs as well as the Vintage Mercedes Benz team.

She told BONUS that this will become an annual celebration. “I was motivated to come to the empowerment centre because of the love I have for women. I know the centre caters to women, who have been abused and who are in need of an extra hand. I felt that it was high time that I stop celebrating myself, and rather take the WIPI as a brand, to celebrate this day,” she explained.

Simango said the movement gives hope to those who are in need and she wanted the women to feel special, even though they go through a lot. Grace and Hope Special School made her realise that the learners are special in their own way, adding that she too had a disabled child.

Grace and Hope’s Acting Principal, Nthabiseng Mafa said Simango’s celebration was a great initiative. “The learners felt honoured to have celebrated her birthday with her,” she added.
