Rapists sentenced in Polokwane to a combined 54 years imprisonment

Two men, aged 18 and 21, were found guilty for two counts of rape, of which one was a 13-year-old girl.

POLOKWANE – The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has praised the work of Det Serg Raphehli Maponya of the Polokwane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

Maponya was assigned the case of Lekau Desmond Motloutsi (21) and an 18-year-old boy, who were both charged with rape and house breaking.

The two were sentenced by the Polokwane High Court for two incidents which occurred at Ga-Kama village in the Mankweng policing area in 2018.

A statement by Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said the men raped a 13-year-old girl who was sleeping at home, together with her younger sister on 23 September 2018.

“They broke the window of the room where these children were sleeping and raped the 13-year-old girl before fleeing on foot. They then proceeded to another house at the area the following day. They broke into the house and raped a woman (35) who was sleeping alone,” Ngoepe said.

After the case was assigned to Maponya, the two were arrested a few days later and ultimately sentenced.

Sentences:

* Motloutsi was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for two counts of house breaking with the intend to rape, as well as 20 years’ imprisonment for two counts of rape.

* The 18-year-old boy was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for two counts of house breaking with intend to rape and 14 years’ imprisonment for two counts of rape.
