Water tankers’ supply affected as Polokwane Muni plans to up reservoir levels

The Polokwane Municipality says water tankers will only be able to draw small volumes of water due to their plans to increase reservoir levels.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality’s Spokesperson, Thipa Selala, said the municipality has made an effort to increase the water levels in reservoirs.

He explained that the water supply from Sand River North to Emdo Park, Mahlasedi Park, Luthuli Park and all extensions has been closed.

“This is an effort to accumulate water in the Potgieter reservoir, which has been sitting at 0% for weeks now. Supply to the affected areas will be restored tomorrow on Sunday, 22 November at noon,” he added.

The Krugersburg reservoir will also be closed this afternoon at 14:00 and re-opened tomorrow morning at 06:00, and will as a result affect the entire city.

“This is an effort to allow water to reach all areas of supply and reduce dependence on water tankers. With this operation in place, water supply through water tankers will be affected as they will only draw a small volume of water from the Sand River North,” Selala explained.

He said this is caused by the low supply received from Ebenezer supply line due to current drought conditions affecting the dam.

“Areas receiving supply are urged to use water sparingly. Report water related challenges to the municipal water and sanitation call centre at 015 023 5376 / 5629,” he concluded.
