[UPDATE] Magna Via five remanded in custody

The five accused appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court earlier today.

18 November

POLOKWANE – Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the men appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court. They were denied bail and their cases were postponed to Tuesday, 24 November for bail application and further police investigations.


 

13 November

POLOKWANE – The case against the five accused in the double murder of Makoena Leshabane (46) and Tebogo Mphuti (35) was postponed to next week for further police investigation, confirmed Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe in a statement on Friday afternoon.

The five suspects, John Zulu (30), Ndondo Buthelezi (25), Bhekimeze Phiyose (34) and Thembelani Dlamini (30) as well as Makoena’s husband, Thabo Stanley Leshabane (57) appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court earlier today, for a formal bail application.

Leshabane and Mphuti were shot and killed ‘execution style’ on 10 October in Magna Via. Preliminary police investigations, at the time, revealed that the two women were with a local property agent, viewing various business premises with the view of renting, when the shooting occurred.

The suspects, who remain in police custody, are facing two counts of murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They are expected to re-appear on Wednesday, 18 November.


10 November

POLOKWANE – The case against the five accused in the double murder of Makoena Leshabane (46) and Tebogo Mphuti (35), was postponed to Friday, 13 November to allow for further investigations.

The five suspects, John Zulu (30), Ndondo Buthelezi (25), Bhekimeze Phiyose (34) and Thembelani Dlamini (30) as well as Makoena’s husband, Thabo Stanley Leshabane (57) all appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court earlier today, for a formal bail application. Leshabane and Mphuti were shot and killed ‘execution style’ on 10 October in Magna Via.

Preliminary police investigations, at the time, revealed that the two women were with a local property agent, viewing various business premises with the view of renting, when the shooting occurred. According to earlier reports Leshabane’s husband was hospitalised after he reportedly attempted to take his own life and was arrested while still in hospital.

Their murder sparked community outcry with protestors gathering outside the Polokwane Magistrate’s court religiously for all the appearances. The suspects, who remain in police custody, are facing two counts of murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
