Limpopo Highway Patrol Team nab house robber and illicit cigarette traders

The team led operations in the Mankweng, Apel and Mokopane policing areas, which ran from 16 November until this morning 

LIMPOPO – A 27-year-old man, who was wanted for a house robbery in the Mankweng area, has been nabbed by members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team.

The team received information about the man and arrested him. A firearm and handcuffs were recovered, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said in a statement.

In a separate incident in the Apel policing area, two men were arrested for the possession as well as dealing in of illicit cigarettes.

They were arrested yesterday, 17 November, after they received a tip-off. “The team recovered 98 cartons of illicit cigarettes and cash. They were arrested and one of the men tried to bribe the officer with R1 000. A bribery charge was added as a result,” Ngoepe explained.

He added that another man was arrested in another incident in the Mokopane area.

“The team were patrolling in and around the CBD when they spotted a suspicious man carrying a black plastic bag entering one of the supermarkets. He was stopped, searched and found in possession of nine cartons of illicit cigarettes and they arrested him on the spot,” he said.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba commended the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team for their relentless efforts in the fight against all categories of crimes across the province.

The arrested suspects will appear before various magistrate’s courts soon, Ngoepe concluded.
