Limpopo Police nab over 600 illegal immigrants for various offenses during joint operations

The illegal immigrants were among 1 849 suspects who were arrested by the police this past week.

LIMPOPO – The most recent joint police operations in the province has led to the arrest of 1 849 suspects, including 617 illegal immigrants. The parallel operations was conducted throughout all districts of the province, including the Beitbridge Port of Entry, from last week Monday until the early hours of this morning.

The operations were comprised of members from the crime prevention units, including the K9 unit, the Crime Intelligence unit, Border Policing, the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP), various detectives with the support from the provincial and municipal traffic departments.

During the week, 2 031 fines were issued for contravention of the National Road Traffic Act, 34 575 people were searched and 20 052 motor vehicles were searched. A total of 68 shebeens were also closed, said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe in a statement on Monday.

“Various amounts of drugs, illicit cigarettes, liquor and dagga plants were confiscated and a total of 17 firearms, six suspected stolen motor vehicles, hundreds of dangerous weapons including knives were sized.”

The origin of some of the recovered items like motor vehicles and firearms, will still be determined by the ongoing police investigations.
