Lebowakgomo man remanded in custody for the murder of his mother

It is alleged the 61-year-old woman was stabbed to death after a family argument.

LIMPOPO – The murder case against  30-year-old man from Lebowakgomo has been postponed for further police investigation, says Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The accused was arrested earlier this week for the murder of his 61-year-old mother and appeared in the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 13 November. The court remanded him in custody until 20 November.

The motive behind the incident is still not clear, but domestic-related violence is suspected.


12 November

LIMPOPO – A 30-year-old from Lebowakgomo is expected to appear in the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court soon for the murder of his mother (61).

The incident happened at Lebowakgomo Zone S on Monday afternoon. It is alleged the deceased, Ramatsimele Engilinah Kekana, was stabbed to death following an argument with her son.

According to Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe the accused fled after the stabbing and hid out at a friend’s house. “Preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspect went into hiding. After few days he then informed one of his friends about the murder and requested him to assist to find another hiding place. His friend, however, contacted the suspect’s relatives who notified the police and the accused was arrested on Wednesday, 11 November.”

Ngoepe added that the motive behind the incident is not clear at this stage but domestic-related violence has not been ruled out. Police investigations still continue.
