Newly appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer of Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA), Sello Maleka aims to increase the number of domestic tourists in the province.
Limpopo has been the number one province in domestic tourism for the past three years but lost the spot in July.
Maleka, who is also the company’s Chief Corporate Services Officer said among his plans in his five-month tenure is to ensure that Limpopo remains the preferred province for domestic tourism in the country.
Maleka said the agency is capable of retaining the number one position.
“Most people are, however, still stuck in their houses and are still afraid to travel given the possibility to contract the virus.
“Given the Covid-19 challenges we will do our best through our intensive marketing campaigns to return to the number one tourism spot.”
He also added that some of his plans in the seat include are not limited to the organisational strategy that hinges on the Provincial Tourism Growth Strategy, implementation of recovery plan to support the tourism industry following the Covid-19 pandemic.
He is upbeat about the resurrection of the tourism sector despite the industry having been among the worst and hardest hit by the pandemic.
“I am optimistic that tourism will soon be back on its feet again as it has for many years proven to be a very resilient sector.
“This is a highly reliable sector that has survived many challenges such as economic turmoil in many parts of the world including our country.
“We will do our utmost to ensure that it continues to contribute massively to the economy of the province and our country at large.
“I will fortunately not be alone while steering this ship as I have a capable team of men and women with impeccable experience to weather any storm coming our way,” he concluded.
