Flora Park Comprehensive High School last week awarded Gr 12 learners for a range of academic achievements, including top marks and obtaining the set minimum averages across the board.
Principal Joseph Masekela commented on their performance.
“Even though the class of 2019 did not reach the target of 90%, we see this as a challenge for you to obtain a higher percentage as the class of 2020. I would like to thank Gr 12B for always attending the Saturday classes promptly. You made us proud.”
He further said the learners should consider three important things when they go to university – to have a vision, because without a vision no target will be achieved; planning their work and timetables, if they are not committed, they will not reach their goals. “Within the school we have learners with low marks and high marks, you must make the decision in which rank you want to fall.”The overall top three achievers were Gift Ramathuthu, followed by Mokutu Mathiba and Moleta Rakau who were all awarded with tablets, certificates, medals and badges.
Teacher, William Mathipa motivated learners to never give up, even after matric.
“When some Gr 12 learners did not return to school like they were supposed to after the lockdown, we as teachers were not impressed. But we are just glad that you did not succumb to peer pressure, especially since many of you are off to varsity next year. Do not let anything distract you,” he said.
School Governing Board (SGB) Representative, Philip Matji emphasised that learners should keep on working hard.
“Your parents and teachers have been supporting you and holding your hand throughout your high school years, and now it is time for you to go out and take of the world. Be responsible and do your best. The ball is now in your court. Remember you are not only going to represent your school or your city but also the province, so go out there and make us proud.”
The keynote address was delivered by Delight Shaun Hlatshwayo who explained there are no shortcuts in life, and that nothing comes easy.
“Everything must be worked hard for in order to succeed and to reach your goals,” Delight said.
