Men selling dagga at mall in Polokwane among 8 arrested during joint operations

The joint operation also included the arrest of three men at a house in Mokopane for selling illicit cigarettes

POLOKWANE – The latest intelligence driven joint operations, conducted from Thursday, 5 November until this morning, saw eight men being apprehended.

The operations were conducted by the Mokopane Crime Intelligence Unit, Waterberg district as well as the Saps Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP), according to Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

In Polokwane, members of the LHP received information about two men who were in possession of dagga at a mall in the area.

“They rushed to the parking lot where the transaction was about to take place. Two men, aged 37 and 48, were apprehended for being in possession of a green refuse plastic bag, which contained 2,5 kg of dagga,” Ngoepe said.

Meanwhile, Mokopane Crime Intelligence and Waterberg District members were activated to trace men dealing in illicit cigarettes and other criminal activities around the area.

“The members followed information which led them to a house in the Mokopane CBD. Three men were found offloading boxes of illicit cigarettes from a truck and they were arrested, while 63 boxes of illicit cigarettes with an estimated street value of more than R200 000 were confiscated. Police further seized a truck and two bakkies,” Ngoepe added.

Another three suspects, between the ages of 26 and 37, were arrested in a separate incident in the Mankweng and Botlokwa policing areas. “They are facing charges of dealing in dagga, weighing 6,5 kg and dealing and possession of three cartons of illicit cigarettes. A cash amount of R4 700 was also seized by the police during their arrests,” he said.

The men will soon appear before various magistrate’s courts across the province and police investigations are continuing, Ngoepe concluded.
