Groblersdal: Mom (58) killed, son (21) shot and daughter (31) raped

A man wearing a balaclava reportedly held the trio hostage while the rest of their family were asleep.

LIMPOPO – A special task team has been established by the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba, following an attack on a family in the Dennilton policing area on Friday.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe explained that the task team will be led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for the Detectives, Maj Gen Samuel Manala and all the necessary and available resources have been mobilised to implement a 72-hour activation plan towards the apprehension of the suspect.

The family at Moteti C village, outside Groblersdal, were asleep when they were attacked, according to Ngoepe.

A man wearing a balaclava, reportedly held Johanna Mogata (58), her 21-year-old son, as well as her 31-year-old daughter, hostage while the rest of their family were asleep. He threatened the daughter with a sharp object and instructed her to leave with him. She complied.

“The mother followed the suspect and her daughter, but the man took out a firearm and fatally shot her several times. Her son tried to intervene and was also shot but managed to run for safety with gunshot wounds,” Ngoepe explained.

The man then dragged the daughter to a secluded area and raped her before he fled the scene.

“The suspect involved in this matter is still unknown and there has been no arrest. Anyone with information that can assist the police to arrest the suspect involved in this matter, may contact Lt Col Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501, Capt Elias Mashigoane at 083 363 9599/013 983 0161, or the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111.”

Alternatively, call your nearest police Station or use the MySAPS App.

Police investigations and manhunt are still underway, Ngoepe concluded.
