Parts of the city without power due to cable theft

Areas affected include Marshall, Suid, Hoog and Oost Streets.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality’s Spokesperson, Thipa Selala, says they are aware of a power failure at Van Zyl Slabbert Street.

Selala says the failure is due to cable theft at a house in the street. “The problem will affect other areas such as Marshall, Hoog, Oost, Webster and Suid streets. Power supply will be restored once the electrical team has fixed the line within an estimated four hours,” he adds.

Selala urges users to treat all electrical wiring as live, to avoid injury. “Switch all electrical appliances off to avoid damage when electricity supply is restored.”

He emphasised that theft and vandalism of municipal infrastructure impacts negatively on normal lives of the community and their safety and security.

“Members of the community are urged to be vigilant over their service infrastructure. Those with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators are advised to contact the police as cable is a criminal offence punishable by law,” Selala concluded.
