N1 south open after fatal head-on collision

Two people died and four, including three children, were injured in the collision.

POLOKWANE – The northbound lane on the N1 outside Polokwane is open following an earlier head-on collision.

The road was closed for several hours after a truck and a sedan collided head-on near the Ultra City filling station at around 16:30 on Wednesday, 28 October.

According to Mike Maringa, Media Liaison Officer for the Department of Transport, the incident claimed the lives of two people. Four others including three children were injured. The driver of the truck and a passenger did not sustain any injuries.

POLOKWANE – Two people died and four, including three children, were injured in an earlier head-on collision between two vehicles on the N1 south of Polokwane.

According to authorities a truck and sedan are involved.

“The incident happened just before the Ultra City filling station and the northbound lane, direction Polokwane is closed,” says Mike Maringa, Media Liaison Officer for the Department of Transport.

Two people from the sedan were killed and another person was critically injured. Three children, also from the sedan, sustained minor injuries. “The truck driver and his passenger escaped without injuries.”

The exact cause of the incident is not yet know but reckless and negligent driving has been cited as the possible cause, he concludes.
