Limpopo police officer arrested for possession of drugs

He was one of 16 men arrested during recent sting operations.

LIMPOPO – The police in the province’s continuous fight against drugs and illicit cigarettes has been commended by Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba.

The team arrested 16 men, between the ages of 25 and 41, during their recent sting operations which were conducted this past week. These operations were conducted across the province via stop-and-searches and patrols, said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

Ga-Masemola Policing Area

A 36-year-old police constable, stationed at the Apel Police Station in the Sekhukhune District, was arrested during a stop-and-search operation after he was found in possession of drugs. Police confiscated 20 sachets of nyaope loaded in his motor vehicle, as well as three rounds of ammunition and a firearm.

Polokwane Policing Area

Eleven men, between the ages of 25 and 36, were arrested and 48 balls of nyaope drugs, 42 sachets of dagga and 16 cartons of illicit cigarettes confiscated.

Mogwadi Policing Area

A team followed a tip-off from members of the community about a man who was reportedly selling illicit cigarettes at Mohodi New Stands, outside Senwabarwana. “The police found a 36-year-old man at his tuckshop, searched him and the shop and in the process, recovered nine cartons of Illicit cigarettes. The man was immediately arrested,” Ngoepe said.

Hlogotlou Policing Area

Members received information about a man who was dealing in drugs and rushed to his house at Monsterlos Unit A. “This suspect’s house was searched and police found 1 000 brown small plastic bags containing nyaope, as well as 170 sachets of crystal myths.

A 25-year-old man was apprehended for possession and dealing in drugs,” Ngoepe said.

He said two men, aged 28 and 35, were also arrested at Monterlos RDP Stands for possession of dagga, obstructing the police to do their work and defeating the ends of justice. “The police confiscated 65 sachets of dagga,” Ngoepe concluded.

The arrested suspects will soon appear before various magistrate’s courts in the province, concluded Ngoepe.
