Duo nabbed for dealing in illicit cigarettes in Polokwane, remanded in custody

The arrest of the two men comes after the Hawks received a tip-off about their alleged illicit dealings at a lodge in Polokwane.

POLOKWANE – Two men arrested for allegedly dealing in illicit cigarettes were remanded in custody after they appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 21 October.

The two accused, aged 42 and 25, were arrested by the Hawks on Monday, 19 October during a raid at a lodge on the outskirts of the city. They are expected to re-appear in the same court on 26 October for formal bail application.

POLOKWANE – The Hawks on Monday, 19 October arrested two men for allegedly dealing in illicit cigarettes, during a raid at a lodge on the outskirts of Polokwane. The men, aged 25 and 42 face a charge of dealing in illicit cigarettes and are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, says Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke.

Their arrest comes after the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit received a tip-off about people selling illicit cigarettes at the said lodge.

“The team descended at the said lodge and proceeded to one of the rooms where they found 330 cartoons of Remington Gold cigarettes.”

The cigarettes are worth an estimated R47 000.
