Musekwa Access Road officially opened for public use

The road cost over R23 million to complete and created a total of 52 jobs for local people.

LIMPOPO – The Deputy Transport Minister, Dikeledi Magadzi, urged communities in Ha-Musekwa and surrounding villages in the Nzhelele area, to take care of the recently opened Musekwa Rural Access Road (D3671).

“While the road was built by government, we are here to hand it over to the community and surrounds. We are ready to change life for the better for communities, even in the deep rural communities, where better roads were ignored for many years,” said Magadzi.

She officially opened the 3km rural access road on Sunday, 18 October, as part of the October Transport Month campaign for 2020.

The road cost over R23 million to complete and Magadzi was pleased that the project was able to create 52 jobs for local people and benefit local contractors. “I urge the Makhado Municipality to make use of their skills during similar projects,” she said.

Magadzi added that phase 2 of the road will commence shortly, and that the road will connect to the Nwanedi Resort in Musina Municipality, so that tourists will be able to travel smoothly.

Simon Mukwevho, Musekwa Road Forum representative, said he was excited about the government’s commitment to rural communities, but feels more needs to be done.

“We are worried that with the bad state of our gravel road it becomes difficult for buses and taxis to ferry the commuters. Some women had to give birth at home and also on their way to clinics and hospitals due to the delay of ambulances,” said Mukwevho.
