Chase Chavalala the new kid on the block

The 35-year-old Limpopo-born artist, David Nghezimani Chavalala says he wants to use his craft to unite people all over the world

LIMPOPO –   New kid on the block Chase is the latest gem in the local music scene. The artist, real name David Nghezimani Chavalala is a native of Giyani township, Limpopo but is now based in Soweto’s Protea Glen.

His hit and debut single, Lufuno, featuring legendary musical royalty Yvonne Chaka Chaka, is at the moment the talk of town. The song has been a work in progress before the Covid-19 Coronavirus outbreak put breaks on its production. In the lyrics Chase goes all out praising this newly-found beautiful lady called Lufuno, telling her how much he loves her and how much he is not going to allow his parents to interfere in his love life as they had done before. Because of their meddling tendencies in his past relationships, Chase had never had a stable woman in his life. But now believes in Lufuno he has found his soul mate.

Chase believes he is destined for greater things in this dog-eat-dog’s tough recording environment – thanks largely to one of South Africa’s all-time musical great-turned philanthropist Yvonne “Princess of Africa” Chaka Chaka.

The single has been ‘one of the best-kept secret projects in progress’ before the outbreak of the Covid-19 put a stop on its production. A unique guitar-dominated track co-written by Chase and and produced by Themba “Don Chaka” Mhinga – himself a top song producer who has produced hits for some of the country’s current and former top musicians, the artist feels his big break has arrived with the single Lufuno.

“This is a great track with lyrics that make sense and for a listener the lyrics must uplift them as much as they uplift me. We learn so much in life and the message here is the same about love,” Chase states.

After seeing the talented young man playing his guitar in a posted social media video, Chaka Chaka, who has a unique sense of unearthing raw talent, she wasted no time in locating this 35-year-old Limpopo-born artist and signed him under her record label – Chaka Chaka Promotions.

Chase thanks his lucky star for having been recognised and lured by a legend who has inspired a number of generations since the early 1980s. “I see a bright future under Mama Yvonne because she doesn’t change my music and instead encourages me to write lyrics as much as I can. She is a great teacher, mentor and advisor to me and warns me about not losing focus on what I do,” says Chase.

Looking back at his musical career Chase thinks it has been worth the wait, especially since the single track is promising to be one that music fans will most certainly dance to as the festive season approaches. Chase sees himself not much as a musician who is after fame but who wants to use the craft to unite people all over the world like some musicians have done.

“I want to go places and try to spread the word of love and peace among people globally and use music as a healing process. For me music should be a universal language spoken by everyone on earth,” he says.

His role model and his inspiration is Chaka Chaka herself and, just like her, he dreams of starting his own recording label and make good music.
