A total of eight people died in four fatal road crashes in Limpopo this weekend. “The major incident was a multiple car crash that claimed three lives at Mooketsi on the R81 road on Saturday afternoon. “It’s alleged that two sedans were involved in a sideswipe collision, whereby the one veered into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with an oncoming SUV.”

Maringa said most the incidents were as result of reckless and negligent driving. “MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has howevre, noted a decrease in pedestrian incidents in the past two weeks, but says the number road fatalities over weekends is still high. She called on motorists to observe the rules of the road.”

Earlier this month, the MEC deployed extra officers along provincial roads in an effort to lower road fatalities over weekends. These extra efforts, this weekend, saw scores of motorists  arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and for speeding, Maringa concluded.
