Transnet celebrates Transport Month by creating awareness

LIMPOPO – The country’s largest freight logistics chain, that delivers goods to each and every citizen, Transnet, used October to create awareness about Freight Rail in all districts of the province.
The company further advanced the country’s rail and road safety initiatives, while also creating awareness of the economic benefits of the rail sector.

Community members were conscientise about cable theft which has been a major obstacle for the company for the past years. The 2020 theme for Transport Month according to the Department of Transport is: “Together shaping the future of transport.”
The corporate affairs department, represented by Fezile Khumalo, partnered with the Corridor Manager (Operations), Resemate Baloyi and other key stakeholders such as the safety department within the corridor, the rail network department, the operations manager’s office, the South African Police Service, Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), Shosholoza Meyl and community police.

The aim was to raise awareness of the dangers related to road and rail and hot-spot areas were targeted for the safety campaigns. The heads of the two corridors, Rudzani Ligege and Mashudu Makatu, have been hard at work to ensure that safety is a main priority in operations.
