[UPDATE] Mokopane robbery: Injured driver and passenger still in hospital

The driver of a delivery van and his passenger were shot during an armed robbery outside Mokopane on Thursday morning.

MOKOPANE – Col Malesela Lebello of the Mokopane Police Station confirmed to Bosveld that three men are being detained at the station, following the robbery incident this morning.

“The three suspects, who were allegedly involved in the robbery of a delivery vehicle, were apprehended during a joint operation between neighbourhood watch and the police. A cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money was also recovered,” Lebello said.

He explained that during the incident the suspects shot the driver and passenger before they fled in the stolen vehicle. This vehicle was found abandoned 600m away from the scene. “The driver was shot in the shoulder and stomach and was rushed to the Mokopane Hospital. The passenger was also shot in the shoulder,” he explained.

“One suspect is still on the run and the police appeals to anyone with information that can lead to his arrest to contact their nearest police station,” he concluded.

The driver is currently in a critical but stable condition in hospital and according to information the passenger is stable.

MOKOPANE – A man has been shot and reportedly run over during an alleged armed robbery outside Mokopane. It is alleged the suspects accosted the driver of the delivery van earlier this morning in ext 17. During the incident, the driver was shot and wounded and was run over by a vehicle, Hennie de Vos, chairperson of Afriforum Neighborhood Watch told Bosveld.

A manhunt was launched for the suspects. “Afriforum members blocked the entrances of Mokopane, while others patrolled through the town on the lookout for the suspect’s vehicle.” De Vos says the vehicle was later spotted in the parking area of a local shopping complex.

“One of the occupants matched the description of the mentioned suspects and we immediately requested police backup to assist with the arrest.”

Three men have since been arrested. Police are still at the scene.
