POLOKWANE – The South African Students Congress (Sasco), today marched to Capricorn TVET’s central office to hand over a memorandum of demands that calls for the inclusion and improvement of TVET colleges.
Bernard Gcina, a member of the Provincial Task Team, says they have on numerous occasions written letters demanding that TVET colleges be taken seriously and felt it was time for a more proactive approach. “We have been barking with no bite, it is time we show that we mean business by staging this protest and handing over a memorandum directly to the CEO of the college.”
Sasco says it is standing in solidarity with all TVET colleges and hopes that the memorandum will not fall on deaf ears.
Some of demands listed in the memorandum include:
- A lack of infrastructure in TVET colleges, including campus residences.
- Delayed NSFAS funding payments
- Maladministration on student affairs
- Delay in the release of certification
