[COURT UPDATE] Case against Seshego cop to resume on Friday

The officer faces charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice following the death of a 16-year-old girl earlier this month.

POLOKWANE – A police officer appeared before the Seshego Magistrate Court on Monday 5 October on charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice following the death of a 16-year-old girl in the early hours of 2 October.

According to the Spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), Ndileka Cola, the officer requested transportation to Lethuli Park for himself, his wife and their child after their room had flooded due to heavy rain. It was alleged that when the person arrived at his home, the officer took his wife and child to the car, and then returned, stood in front of another room, which is rented by a woman and her 16-year-old daughter.

Cola’s statement read that the officer allegedly fired numerous rounds through their door, with one killing the teenager. The police were then summoned to the scene and upon arrival, immediately brought the matter to the attention of the directorate. The officer was arrested and he took the IPID to the spot where he had hidden the firearm.

Cola said the IPID are investigating the girl’s death as a result of police action. The officer was denied bail and his case postponed to Friday 16 October, where he will again apply for bail, Cola confirmed.
