Planned water supply shutdown to affect the city, Seshego and other areas

The Polokwane Municipality says reservoirs will be closed tonight to accumulate more water.

POLOKWANE – The Spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality, Thipa Selala, says parts of the city, Seshego, Ga-Maja, Ga-Chuene and Thokgwaneng will be affected by a planned water shutdown.

The shutdown is scheduled to start at 07:00 on Thursday, 8 October and will last until Friday, 9 October.

The shutdown, which affects the Olifantspoort Plant, is necessary in order for Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) to fix issues currently experienced at the plant.

Selala says LNW will, during the shutdown, replace valves and fittings on Olifantspoort 09, chamber and fittings on Olifantspoort 25, as well as connect a temporary bypass pipeline (diversion) to the existing pipeline.

“All users are urged to use water sparingly in an effort to minimize the impact of the shutdown. For purposes of ensuring that water is available for the duration of the shutdown, reservoirs will be closed tonight to accumulate more water overnight. Water tankers will be provided to the areas that might experience water shortage during shutdown,” Selala explained.

He added in his statement that Lepelle Northern Water said it regrets to find itself “having to implement shutdown while Ebenezer Scheme is not doing well due to critical dam conditions”.

He urged users to report water related challenges to the municipal water and sanitation call centre at 015 023 5376 / 5629.
