Armed house robber arrested near Phalaborwa

The man is one of three who robbed a 23-year-old man of thousands of Rands and a cellphone in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

LIMPOPO – A manhunt for the remaining suspects involved in an armed robbery in Namakgale, outside Phalaborwa on Tuesday has been launched. This follows the arrest of a 46-year-old man shortly after he and his accomplices broke into a house of the victim and 17 other occupants, according to a statement by Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.

Mojapelo said the men were armed and robbed the 23-year-old man of thousands of Rands and a cellphone, before they tried to flee the scene.

The getaway motor vehicle failed to start and the robbers fled on foot. “The owner together with the other occupants gave chase and at that point, police were already notified and responded,” Mojapelo explained.

The driver was cornered and arrested according to Mojapelo, who added that a blue sedan was confiscated. “Further investigation will still be conducted to determine its origin. The 46-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Namakgale Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of house robbery.”
